The Benefits of an In-Home Studio: Why I Love It at Elizabeth Lang Photography

Photography has always been a part of who I am. From a young age, I was the one capturing moments for friends and family. My love for photography only grew stronger as I got older, and my passion became my career. My first paid gig was a wedding in 2004, during my first year at UBC. I’ve never looked back since then! But, like many parents, things changed after I had kids.

Now, as a mom myself, I’ve realized just how important it is to be closer to home and spend more quality time with my family. I needed to find a way to balance my love for photography with the demands of family life. That’s when I made the switch to newborn photography in-studio six years ago. And it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made! Having an in-home studio has allowed me to do what I love while maximizing time with my children and making my life more convenient and manageable.

No Commute, More Time for You

One of the biggest advantages of having an in-home studio is the fact that I don’t waste precious time commuting. With my studio attached to my home, I no longer need to battle traffic or worry about driving to and from work. That means more time to focus on what really matters — you, my clients! It’s all about making sure your session is as smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free as possible.

Not only does this benefit me, but it also means you can enjoy a more relaxed experience, knowing I’m fully prepared and not stressed from the demands of a long commute. I’m ready to focus entirely on you and your family, whether you’re here for a newborn sessionmaternity photos, or family portraits. The beauty of being at home is that I have everything I need in close reach!

Proximity for Setup

Another great perk of my in-home studio is the convenience of setting up the night before. Since my studio is just steps away from my home, I can spend time preparing for your session at my own pace. Whether it’s selecting props, adjusting lighting, or creating the perfect backdrop, I can get everything ready the day before. This allows me to focus on the creative side and ensures that everything is just right for your session. No rushing, no stress — just a calm and prepared environment when you arrive.

Easy Access to Supplies

Having all my supplies and props so close at hand is another advantage of my in-home studio. Whether I need soft blankets, backdrops, or even props for your session, I have everything organized and right nearby. If anything needs a quick refresh (especially with newborn sessions!), it’s easy for me to grab whatever I need without running back and forth to a different location.

And with babies, things can get a little messy! No worries — I also have everything I need to keep the studio clean and tidy at a moment’s notice. Whether it’s baby wipes, fresh towels, or new props, everything is easily accessible so I can maintain a spotless, welcoming environment for you and your family.

Laundry on Site

As a newborn photographer, I use a lot of fabrics, blankets, and accessories during my sessions. Being able to do laundry right next to my studio is a game-changer. I don’t have to worry about running out of clean linens or props for upcoming sessions because I can wash and refresh everything on-site. Whether it’s cleaning a blanket from the last shoot or getting the perfect outfit ready for a new client, the proximity of my laundry area makes it easy to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.

Economically Makes Sense

Having an in-home studio also makes financial sense for me as a business owner. Without the added cost of renting a separate studio space, I can focus on investing in high-quality props and equipment that will elevate the experience for my clients. The savings I’ve gained by operating from my home allow me to offer more affordable sessions, ensuring you receive exceptional value for your investment in memories.

Why I Love It

Ultimately, my in-home studio has allowed me to find the perfect balance between my passion for photography and my commitment to family. It’s given me the freedom to capture meaningful moments for you while spending more time with my loved ones. Plus, I absolutely love the cozy, intimate setting I can create for each session. Whether it’s a newborn session, a maternity shoot, or family portraits, my in-home studio allows me to offer a personalized experience that’s full of care, attention to detail, and love.

Being so close to my family also means I can be more flexible, less rushed, and better prepared for each session. This is the photography experience I’ve always wanted to give to my clients — and having an in-home studio makes that possible.
