When Do We Shoot Newborn Photography Sessions? – Elizabeth Lang Photography (2025 Business Hours)
If you’re expecting a little one and planning for a newborn photography session, one of the most common questions I get is: When is the best time to schedule my session?
At Elizabeth Lang Photography, newborn sessions are always a highlight of my week, and I’ve carefully designed my scheduling around both the needs of families and the optimal conditions for the session itself. In 2025, I’m continuing to offer newborn sessions on Saturday mornings at 9:30 or 10:00 AM.
But why this specific time? Let me explain why 10:00 AM is often the perfect time to do your baby photos and how I structure these sessions to make them as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.

Why Saturday Mornings?
When it comes to newborn photography, the timing is incredibly important. A peaceful, calm atmosphere is essential for getting those serene, beautiful images that you’ll treasure forever. That’s why I schedule all of my newborn sessions in the mornings, typically starting at either 9:30 AM or 10:00 AM on Saturdays. Here’s why this timing works so well:
- Babies Are Happiest in the Morning: Newborns tend to be more alert and calm in the morning after a good night’s sleep. Around 10:00 AM is often when babies are at their happiest and most settled, which makes it easier to capture those sweet, peaceful moments we all love in newborn photos.
- Perfect Timing for Toddler Siblings: I know how tricky it can be to schedule family photos, especially when you have older siblings involved. Toddler siblings usually do best in the morning, too—so scheduling your newborn session at 10:00 AM allows for plenty of time to capture their photos before they get tired and fussy. Plus, after we’re done, they can head home for their nap, and the family can carry on with the rest of their day. It’s a win-win!
- My Afternoon Availability: A 10:00 AM start also works well for my afternoon schedule. I often have other commitments after the newborn sessions, whether that’s editing, meetings, or other photography projects. By having morning sessions, I’m able to give you my full focus without the stress of running out of time.
- Assistant Support: Many of my sessions also benefit from the help of my wonderful assistant, who plays a crucial role in making sure everything goes smoothly. By scheduling in the morning, I ensure that my assistant is available to help with everything from posing guidance to prop management, keeping the flow of the session smooth and stress-free.
- Sufficient Time for the Session: Newborn photography is an art that takes time. Sessions generally last about 2 hours, but they can extend up to 3 hours if needed, especially when working with babies and siblings. The morning session allows plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing the baby if necessary, without feeling rushed.
- School Age Siblings: are in school during the weekdays so weekend sessions allow them to take part without missing school.
- Working Parents: Parents who work during the week may struggle to get the time off for the session so weekends work to allow both parents to come out.

What to Expect During Your Newborn Session
- Relaxed and Calm Environment: I make sure the studio is warm, cozy, and calm to create the best possible environment for your baby to relax and sleep.
- Personalized Attention: Every newborn session is tailored to you and your family. Whether you want to incorporate special props or meaningful family heirlooms, I’ll work with you to bring your vision to life.
- Plenty of Time: Since the session lasts up to 3 hours, there’s no rush. If baby needs to be fed, cuddled, or comforted, we take our time to ensure they are calm and happy for the shoot.
- Sibling Photos: If you have older siblings, we’ll capture some family photos at the start of the session when they are still fresh and happy. After that, we focus on the newborn while your toddler can relax at home with a nap.

Booking Your Newborn Session
The 10:00 AM slot is incredibly popular for these reasons, and I highly recommend booking early to secure your spot. Newborn photography is best done within the first 2 weeks after birth (ideally between 7 to 10 days), so it’s a good idea to reach out in advance to lock in your session date. I’ll ask for your due date when you book, and once baby arrives, we’ll finalize the timing of your session based on your baby’s arrival.
