What Camera Do You Use? A Look at My Gear – EOS R5 Mirrorless, Canon 5D Mark IV & Mark II
At Elizabeth Lang Photography, the quality of the photos I create for you is everything. Every image, whether it’s a newborn session, a family portrait, or your maternity session, is captured with the highest standard of professional equipment. You might be wondering, what gear do I use to ensure every photo is perfect? Let me take you behind the scenes and give you an inside look at the three camera bodies that help me deliver exceptional photos: the Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless, Canon 5D Mark IV, and Canon 5D Mark II.

Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless: My Primary Camera
The Canon EOS R5 is my primary camera for every session, and for good reason. As one of Canon’s flagship mirrorless models, the R5 is a powerhouse of precision, speed, and quality. Here’s why I rely on it for your photos:
1. STUNNING IMAGE QUALITY
The Canon EOS R5 boasts an impressive 45 megapixel full-frame sensor, providing ultra-sharp images that are rich in detail and color. This is essential for newborn photography, family portraits, and weddings, where capturing every little detail matters – from the tiny hands of a newborn to the emotions on your face during your summer garden minis.

2. ADVANCED AUTOFOCUS SYSTEM
The EOS R5 features Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, which offers 1053 autofocus points and eye-tracking. This makes it incredibly fast and accurate, even in challenging lighting conditions. Whether I’m capturing a fast-moving toddler or intimate moments at a wedding, this camera ensures that your images are in sharp focus, every time.
3. HIGH-SPEED PERFORMANCE
With 20 frames per second (fps) for continuous shooting in electronic shutter mode, the R5 is built for action. If I’m capturing family moments or those precious newborn yawns, I can take a series of rapid shots to ensure I don’t miss a single moment. The high-speed burst mode also allows me to capture multiple expressions and gestures, ensuring you get the perfect shot.

4. VIDEO CAPABILITIES
As an added bonus, the 4K video capabilities of the R5 are outstanding. While I primarily focus on still photography, I am interested in exploring video further.

Canon 5D Mark IV: My Reliable Backup Camera
While the Canon EOS R5 is my primary camera, the Canon 5D Mark IV is my backup body, and it's trusted for good reason. This camera body has been a professional standard for years, known for its durability and amazing image quality. From my days as a wedding photographer I know how important it is to have a backup camera and gear just in case something fails during your shoot.
1. Full-Frame Sensor for Gorgeous Detail
The 30.4 megapixel full-frame sensor in the Mark IV ensures that every photo is sharp, detailed, and perfect for printing. The color rendering is accurate, and the dynamic range makes it versatile for various lighting conditions, from bright outdoor shoots to low-light indoor sessions.
2. Excellent Low-Light Performance
The 5D Mark IV excels in low-light conditions, making it an excellent choice for weddings and indoor sessions. Its high ISO capabilities mean that I can continue shooting without worrying about grainy or blurry images, even in dimly lit environments.
3. Robust Autofocus
The 61-point autofocus system of the Canon 5D Mark IV is quick and responsive, providing precise tracking for both stationary and moving subjects. Whether I’m photographing a baby or capturing a family during a photo session, this camera ensures that every shot is crisp and clear.
4. Durability and Build
The 5D Mark IV is built to last. It’s weather-sealed, ensuring that I can continue to shoot in various environmental conditions without worry. Whether it’s a chilly fall day or a rainy outdoor wedding, this camera is reliable and tough.

Canon 5D Mark II: The Legacy Camera
The Canon 5D Mark II is my second backup body, a trusted camera that I continue to use for special shoots. Though it’s not as feature-rich as the R5 or Mark IV, it still holds a special place in my gear bag because of its reliability. Although this camera is the back up to my back up, I love this baby! I took this camera traveling for a year through Australia, at the time it was brand new and I had it shipped to me! It still works wonderfully!
1. 21.1 MEGAPIXEL FULL-FRAME SENSOR
The 5D Mark II’s 21.1 megapixel full-frame sensor still produces stunning images with natural colors and excellent dynamic range. While it’s an older model, it’s capable of creating high-quality images for portraits, family sessions, and more.
2. DEPENDABILITY
The 5D Mark II is known for its reliability and simplicity. For a photographer who prefers a straightforward, no-frills tool that consistently delivers quality, this camera is perfect. I’ve used it for many years and know it inside and out.
3. STRONG PERFORMANCE FOR BOTH PHOTOS AND VIDEO
The 5D Mark II was one of the first cameras to shoot 1080p video, and although it’s no longer cutting-edge in that department, it’s still a reliable camera for both stills and video when needed. It continues to be a dependable option for situations where I need a backup camera to step in seamlessly.
