How to Choose Your Images: A Guide to Proofs and the Editing Process
By Elizabeth Lang Photography | Serving Cloverdale, Surrey & Vancouver Families
After your photo session with Elizabeth Lang Photography, it’s time to choose your images! This can be an exciting and slightly overwhelming process, especially if it’s your first time. I’m here to walk you through what proofs are, how to make your selections, and what happens after you choose your favorite images.
What Are Proofs?
Proofs are unedited, smaller copies of the images from your session. Think of them as a rough draft — they showcase the overall pose, expressions, and mood of the photo, but they haven’t gone through the final editing process yet.
When you view your proofs, focus on the big picture! Don’t worry about small details like backgrounds that need to be straightened, fabric that needs smoothing, or skin blemishes. These imperfections will be fixed later during the editing process. The proofs are just to give you an idea of the composition and feel of each shot.

Once in your gallery you can view and favourite your images.
Why Are Proofs Watermarked?
You’ll notice that your proofs are watermarked with red lines and text. This serves a couple of purposes:
- Protection: It helps ensure that the images are not copied or shared before they are finalized.
- Unfinished Work: Since these are unedited, they’re not meant for printing or sharing in their current state. The watermark ensures that anyone viewing the images knows they are not the final product.
Please avoid copying or printing proofs as they are lower resolution and will not look great when printed. You’ll receive your edited, high-quality versions after making your selections.

How Are Your Images Delivered?
After your session, you’ll receive your proofs through ShootProof, an online gallery platform. This platform is a simple way to view and compare your images, making the selection process easier and more efficient.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Viewing and Comparing: You’ll be able to see all your proofs in one place and compare them side by side. This will help you choose the images you love the most.
- Marking Favourites: To select the images you’d like to keep, simply mark your favorites in the gallery. You can easily tag them as favorites, so I’ll know which ones to prioritize for editing.
- One Device: To make the process smoother, I recommend using only one device to select your favorites. This helps prevent any confusion in your selections.
Once you’ve made your choices, just send me a message letting me know you’re done. From there, I’ll move your selections into my editing queue.

You can view your favourites in the favourite tab at the top
The Editing Process
Once I have your chosen images, I’ll begin the editing process. Here’s what happens next:
- White Balance & Exposure: I adjust the color tones and exposure so your images look their best.
- Cropping: I will crop your images to ensure the composition is perfect.
- Fabric Smoothing: If there are wrinkles in clothing or props, I’ll smooth them out for a polished look.
- Skin Blemish Removal: Any blemishes, acne, or other skin imperfections will be removed. I want you to feel your absolute best in these images!
- Background Adjustments: If there are distracting elements in the background, I’ll fix them to ensure the focus is on you and your loved ones.

Downloading Images- After you receive your edited gallery, click download all to download.
Final Image Delivery
Once your images are edited and retouched, I’ll upload them into a new online gallery for you to view and download. You’ll be able to download your high-resolution images, which are perfect for printing, framing, and sharing.
- Download All: You’ll be able to download all the final images at once. Be sure to save them to your computer as a backup! You will get a zip folder of your images into your downloads folder. From here be sure to save that folder to 2 places such as a CD and the Cloud.
In Conclusion
Choosing your images is a fun and important step in preserving your memories. It’s a chance to select the moments you want to cherish forever. Rest assured, after you make your selections, I’ll take care of the rest, delivering you polished, beautiful images that you and your family will treasure.
