Gurraj’s Maternity Session – Waiting for Baby in Cloverdale

There’s something incredibly special about photographing first-time parents. This recent maternity session with Gurraj and her partner was filled with quiet excitement, tender connection, and the unmistakable glow of anticipation.

We held the session in my Cloverdale studio, creating a soft and timeless atmosphere to capture this beautiful chapter in their lives. Gurraj looked radiant in flowing fabrics and soft tones, and we included some fresh pink peonies that added a delicate, feminine touch. The session featured a mix of couple portraits, solo images of Gurraj, and intimate moments that reflect just how close they are to welcoming their little one.

Maternity photography is more than just documenting a baby bump. It’s about honouring this extraordinary transition—celebrating the love that started it all, and the journey your body and heart are making to bring a new life into the world. From the moment you learn you’re pregnant, everything changes. There is sacrifice, strength, and so much beauty in the waiting.

That’s why I encourage families to capture this time. Photos help you slow down, reflect, and remember what it felt like to wait for someone you already love so deeply. They’re also a beautiful way to mark the bond between partners as they prepare to become parents.

I typically recommend scheduling your maternity session for after 28 weeks, when your belly is beautifully round and you’re still feeling relatively comfortable. It’s also a great time to start thinking about your newborn session—bring a special item you'd like to use for both, whether it’s a tiny pair of booties, a handmade blanket, or a meaningful family heirloom.

Planning your outfits and colours ahead of time helps ensure your final gallery is cohesive and personal. Gurraj chose a classic, neutral palette that will never go out of style—perfect for timeless keepsakes you’ll treasure for years to come.

This session was filled with love, laughter, and quiet reflection. Gurraj and her partner are on the edge of the biggest adventure of their lives, and I’m so honoured I could capture this moment for them.

If you're expecting and want to celebrate this season with timeless, heartfelt portraits, I’d love to create something beautiful for you.
